Location is approximate (city level) and comes from public IP databases. We do not store your IP or share it with anyone.

What is an IP address?

An IP address is a number assigned to your internet connection. Every website you visit sees it, the same way every letter you mail carries a return address. It tells servers where to send the page you asked for. Without it, nothing on the internet could find its way back to you.

There are two versions in use. IPv4 addresses look like 192.0.2.1, four groups of numbers, and they are still the most common. IPv6 addresses are longer, like 2001:db8::1, and exist because the world ran out of new IPv4 addresses years ago. The tool above shows whichever version your connection is using right now.

What does this tool show?

Besides the IP itself, the lookup shows what public databases know about it: your approximate city and region, your country, the company providing your connection (your ISP), and your timezone. None of this identifies you personally. It cannot show your name, your street address, or anything about your device beyond what your own browser reports.

Why proxy users check their IP

If you use a proxy, this page is the fastest way to confirm it is working. Connect through the proxy, then reload this page: if the IP and country shown here match the proxy you picked instead of your real location, the proxy is doing its job. If you still see your own IP, the proxy is not active or it is leaking. Our free proxy list lets you filter working proxies by country and protocol, and every row has a Ping button for a live check.

How to hide or change your IP address

The straightforward way is to route your traffic through a proxy or VPN, so websites see the proxy's address instead of yours. Pick a proxy from the proxy list, enter its IP and port in your browser or phone settings, then come back here to verify the change. For country-specific options, browse proxies by location. Remember that free proxies are shared and short-lived, so re-check with this tool whenever it matters.

Frequently asked questions

What is my IP address?

It is the number shown in large text at the top of this page. That is the public address your provider assigned to your connection.

Is my IP address private information?

Not really. Every website you visit can see it. It usually reveals your approximate city and your provider, but not your name or exact address.

Why does my IP address change sometimes?

Most home connections use dynamic IPs. Your provider may assign a new one when your router reconnects, and switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data almost always changes it.

How can I hide my IP address?

Use a proxy or VPN. Then sites see the proxy's IP instead of yours. You can verify it worked by reloading this page and checking that the location changed.

What is the difference between IPv4 and IPv6?

IPv4 uses four number groups (192.0.2.1) and IPv6 uses longer hexadecimal addresses (2001:db8::1). This tool displays whichever one your connection uses.
